Old loves are forever….

9 09 2009

San Francisco, we met exactly 10 years ago, and it was love at first sight. Maybe it was the interesting way in which you carried yourself, a mix of foreign and forbidden, or maybe it was all the beers. In any case, your lack of inhibitions and your fabulous architecture were certainly a reason to come back to you. And I did. But it has been too long. Things have changed.

Remember the time when we had Starbucks for Thanksgiving because by the time I got there everything was closed? or the time we walked around until our feet hurt, just to find that tower? How about the time German gave us a narrated tour that included some of my favorite beers? And who can forget the countless trips from Sacramento just to have lunch and shop around?

Ah, but the lack of traveling this summer has been fortunate, for you seem like the perfect idea to say hello to the change of seasons, to celebrate the New Year, and to recharge my drained energy reserves. This time things are different. Flying with me is a boy who constantly makes me laugh, a boy who sees the world with a different perspective, and who inspires my creativity.

But that is not the only thing. I have changed. Since the last time I saw you. For starters, I am more aware. Of my surroundings, my interactions, my desires, my aspirations. Now I take more pictures, I enjoy solitude, I am slowly, becoming the person I always knew I wanted to be.
